Gx Insight

 About Gx Originals

This site is built foremost as a portfolio, designed with exploration and discovery in mind, showcasing many years of artwork and artistic development. Each piece of original artwork has been digitally crafted as an individual piece, all untitled, with exception of their collection reference code, with the intent to allow the viewer to seen what they want within each.

A part of me leans towards the concept of allowing something to be beautiful or interesting, or both or neither, to the viewer, as anything can be seen as beautiful and interesting or unappealing and nonsensical at any given time, as it is all dependant on the person and their position of vision. It is the notion that something can just simply exist without being dissected, branded, quantified or qualified that really appeals to me, although, with that said, I have provided some more in-depth insights, to the best of my ability, below and throughout the site, for those that perhaps do not prescribe to this theory or those that prefer a more nuanced contextual approach to the visual experience. About the Artworks & Collections

The artworks in the Gx Collections are created intuitively, rather than with an intended outcome, as they are crafted from a mind, which I consider to be ‘blessed’ with a condition called Aphantasia (a.k.a. Mind Blindness), which is a phenomenon that effects the conscience mind’s ability to form a visual image within it, meaning in-terms of artistic process, I have no idea where a piece will end up, as I have no clear internal vision, of what I want to create, to start with.

Though each piece starts in its own way, my essential motive is to digitally sculpt colour and form in an abstract fashion until, I feel, it's time to stop. I then create or add to an existing collection, I think, it fits within, though, what I may see within each piece, may not be what another can see within it.

An additional visual study with more insight into the digital progression of a piece of artwork, from conception to collection, can be seen here Gx - Anatomy of an Artwork.

Digital to physical has always been my ambition for each piece I create and one of the main advantages to creating works digitally, as opposed to traditional formats, is the exploration of the final physical piece, and as such, I have revised and developed a number of different printing methods over the years, with a view to giving the best possible visual experience for each piece as they are initially created, and generally see in this age, on a digital screen. You can find more insight into current printing methods on the Gx-LP’s- Luxe Prints page.

I’ve never felt the necessity to offer any deep insight in to what the artworks I create say in any introspective or existential fashion, personally I don’t consider what I do to have any deep social or political impact nor do I endeavour to create works that reference such matters, topics of which I feel are best left to those that have more of an educated passion for referencing.

Ultimately, beyond the creation of each piece and the collections as a whole, presentation is my end intention and as such I’m of the belief that visual art in any format should entice the eye, provoke the mind, or ignite the soul...if not all three! My aspiration is that there are pieces throughout the Gx Collections that convey the latter, for those that look upon them, in either their original digital or physical future forms.
